THOUGHT OF THE WEEK Get the democracy you deserve: go vote!

Statistics show that although some 9.3 million South Africans did not register to vote in the upcoming elections, 26.7 million citizens are registered, and tomorrow they will have the opportunity to have their say on who should govern for the next four years.

Various tables and figures on the Stats SA webpage show that quality of life has improved for many South Africans since the landmark 1994 elections that ended white-minority rule. For example, it reflects that the number of households with access to electricity has risen from 58.2% in 1996 to 84.4% in 2017; households with access to piped water has risen from 60.8% in 1996 to 88.6% in 2017.

That not withstanding challenging inequalities remain, and we vote for the party we trust will best address this. There’s no fence to sit on. Go vote!
