Vindication For Women’s Rights – Combatting Violence Against Women

In a recent decision, the Western Cape High Court overturned a gag order preventing a woman from talking about an abusive ordeal she experienced.


Judge Robert Henney, with Judge Daniel Thulare in agreement, overturned an order made by the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court that disallowed a woman from speaking about the fact that she was raped by her ex-boyfriend.


This is a ground-breaking judgment that affirms the rights of women to freely speak about violence without being gagged and silenced.
